What is my purpose? What is my quest? What is my goal?
Maybe I’m a simple person with simple reasons to live but this is what I want:
Building lean muscle mass.
Its my goal.
Its my quest.
Its whats make me going.
Its my reason to rise up from bed every morning.
Am I a simple person who only cares about my own fysic?
Probably.
Do that bother me?
Not at all. On the contrary. I enjoy it AL THE WAY.
I observe my progress to evaluate my methods to achieve my goals. Are my methods adequate and correct or is there something that might be better to do another way? To know this I need reliable measurements methods.
Prime method is the mirror.
Second method is the measurement tape.
Third method is some kind of reliable body composition measurement.
I cant rely only on the bathroom weight scale. And the reason is:
The weight scale only tell me the earth gravity impact on my body. It tell the weight my body pushes to the ground. It only tell if my body is heavier or lighter. It doesn’t give my any information if the weight is fat or muscle.
My goal is to gain lean muscle mass so:
If I gain muscle mass I succeed.
If I gain body fat I fail.
If I loose body fat mass I succeed.
If I loose muscle mass I fail.
The weight scale
The weight scale is only useful together with another reliable body composition measurement methods who can tell what the weight that I’m gaining or loosing consists of.
What is a reliable body composition measurement?
Caliper measurement is one way of doing body composition measurements, but it can be hard to do reliable. The person who do the caliper measurement has do be a experienced measurer and there are not many experienced caliper measurers out there. But if you find one – its a great way to get your composision measurment.
Another body composition measurement is the Bod Pod. The Bod Pod is said to be the most accurate and exact method to measure body composition.
I have done body composition measurement 9 times from year 1994 to year 2022 to evaluate my training results. I also do Photo shots to document what the numbers in the body composition measurement signify. And complete it al with a measurement tape control.
I have done Bod Pod body composition measuremenst at Ylab Stockholm Sweden. https://ylab.com/. A few years ago I also did Bod Pod body composition measurements at Pauluns Näringscenter.
The Bod Pod measures your bodys density very exact. Body fat have a special and measurable density and the Bod Pod can separate the weight of the body fat and the rest of you body – your Fat free body mass – from eachother so it can calculate your body compsition in kilo and percent verry exact and accurate. By this you can evaluate your training and diet to see if you are gaining or loosing muscels and if you gaining or loosing body fat.
Am I eating enough calories so my body builds muscles? Am I eating to much calories so my body builds body fat?
Am I eating enough protein, carbs and fat so my body can build muscles or am I eating to much?
Is the balance betveen the protein, carb and fat good or should I eat more protein and less carbs and fat?
Am I training hard enough or to hard?
Am I give my body enough time to rest and recover?
All this and more can a relyable body composition measurment give answers to.
The result of my body composition measurements is following:
The result that matters to me is Fat free mass. Fat free mass is: My body weight without body fat. The only thing that weight more or less in ”Fat free mass” is lean muscle mass. My bone and other inner organs does not gain or loose weight. Well okay: Yes, bone structure is gaining density and weight by doing heavy gym training. But that weight of the gained bone structure is negligible in this context, so I ignore that.
